What role does assessment play in the learning process?

How do you align your teaching with the depth and rigor of the SBAC
assessment?

What is DOK? How do you use it to support your instruction and deepen
student learning?

The primary purpose of formative assessment is to inform learning, not merely
audit it. (CA Mathematics Framework, November 2013)

Assessment can play a critical role in the learning process; it allows us to gather evidence about student understanding and use this evidence to make instructional decisions. Enhance your understanding of assessment through the exploration of the new CA Mathematics Framework and Smarter Balanced (SBAC) support documents. Learn how to use the formative assessment process to build a deeper understanding of mathematics, supporting students in achieving the depth and complexity of the California Mathematics Standards, both in content and practice. Learn the importance of Depth of Knowledge (DOK) levels and how these can guide us in preparing students for the SBAC Assessments. Create learning intentions and success criteria for clusters of standards. Learn what is new regarding the SBAC interim assessments and other assessment updates.
