Approximately 28% of our county students are English learners. We must attend to the specific language needs of these students as we aim to improve the overall achievement of our learners.

The B E L I E F professional learning modules are designed to support district and site administrators in leading the change— building and refining the EL programs within their systems. This comprehensive overview of EL programs and ELD implementation is designed to fit within the confines of the busy administrator’s schedule.

This is a multi-day event!

Cohort 3:
Day 1: Thursday, May 17, 2018 from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm
Day 2: Wednesday, June 7, 2018 from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm


The two-day experience will address implementation of Integrated & Designated ELD through six related modules.

Modules include:
  • current ELD research;
  • opportunities to deepen understanding of Integrated and Designated ELD;
  • activities to analyze, reflect upon, and refine programs for English learners;
  • follow-up activities to use with staff to support implementation.
Module Content:
  • Module 0: Laying the Foundation— Introduction, ELD Foundation
  • Module 1: Framing the Context for Instruction— Integrated & Designated ELD
  • Module 2: Building Up the Frame— Systems for EL Programs
  • Module 3: Constructing Instruction— What ELD Looks & Sounds Like
  • Module 4: Inspecting the Program— Monitoring EL Progress through Data
  • Module 5: Walkthrough and Finishes— Continuous Refinement of EL Programs
